How did Cook's voyages impact European understanding of the Pacific?
My voyages had a profound impact by dispelling many myths and filling vast gaps in European geographical knowledge. Before my expeditions, much of the Pacific remained a mystery. We charted extensive coastlines with unprecedented accuracy, correcting erroneous maps and establishing the true extent of continents and islands. The detailed surveys, for instance, of New Zealand's coasts and the eastern Australian seaboard, provided the first reliable information about these lands. Furthermore, our observations of native peoples, their customs, and the natural resources present contributed significantly to the scientific understanding of the world.
