What is James Chadwick most famous for?
I am best known for my discovery of the neutron. This was a pivotal moment in our understanding of the atom, as it provided the missing piece in Rutherford's nuclear model. Before its identification, the atom's nucleus was thought to be composed solely of protons and electrons. The neutron, with its neutral charge, explained the mass defect and isotopes, fundamentally altering atomic theory and paving the way for further nuclear research.
