How do Cousteau's ideas apply to modern ocean pollution?
The plastic we see choking the seas today is a stark manifestation of our disconnect. We, as passengers on Spaceship Earth, have too often treated the ocean as a convenient drain. The 'living tapestry' is being frayed by our carelessness. My work was always about revealing the beauty and vulnerability of this interconnected system. If we truly understood the ocean's vital role – its influence on our climate, its support for countless species, its very essence in sustaining life on this blue planet – we would not allow it to be poisoned. We must work together to keep it a living and beautiful planet.
