Some scholars have questioned the extent to which my focus on ethnic minorities might have inadvertently created separate historical narratives. While my intention was always to integrate these histories into the broader tapestry of China, the emphasis on distinct ethnic groups sometimes led to interpretations that could be seen as isolating.
