How did Hughes approach innovation and risk?
Innovation was about problem-solving. If existing technology wasn't good enough, I'd invest in developing something better. Risk was always a factor, but it had to be calculated. I'd gather all the available information, analyze the potential returns against the costs and challenges, and then make a decision. The R-47 project, for example, was a huge gamble, but the potential for a long-range transport aircraft was undeniable. It’s about having a vision and the grit to see it through.
