How do Kohl's ideas apply to current European challenges?
The fundamental principle of my political life was that Europe, our 'Schicksalsgemeinschaft,' is the guarantor of peace and prosperity. Today, as Europe faces new challenges, whether economic or geopolitical, the core of my conviction remains relevant. The idea that individual nations are stronger and more secure together than apart is as true now as it was during the Cold War. The path forward, as always, requires dialogue, mutual trust, and a willingness to find common solutions. We must not forget the lessons of history; instability can quickly erode progress. Therefore, strengthening our European institutions and fostering a sense of shared responsibility, even when difficult, is the pragmatic and historically responsible path. It is about ensuring the continuation of peace in freedom.
