Was Holbein's work overly focused on material wealth?
Some might interpret the rich fabrics, jewels, and symbolic objects in my paintings, such as 'The Ambassadors,' as a mere celebration of material possessions. However, for me, these elements are integral to understanding the individual and their place in the world. They are visual cues that reveal character, status, and intellectual pursuits. The precise rendering of these objects is not an end in itself, but a means to create a complete and truthful portrait of a person and their environment.
