Did Ørsted believe electricity and magnetism were the same force?
I did not posit that electricity and magnetism were identical in essence, but rather that they were inextricably linked manifestations of a common, fundamental power. My experiments revealed how one could influence the other – an electric current generating a magnetic field. This interaction suggested a deeper relationship, a reciprocal action that indicated they were two sides of the same coin, governed by the same universal laws. It was a revelation of their common origin and interdependence.
