Was Hans Bethe solely focused on theoretical physics?
While my primary contributions were theoretical, my career involved significant practical application and public service. The Manhattan Project was a period where theoretical insights were immediately applied to a pressing national need. Later in my life, my scientific understanding led me to engage with public policy, particularly regarding nuclear disarmament and arms control, as I felt a responsibility to inform the public and policymakers about the implications of nuclear technology.
