Critique of Maupassant's pessimism?
Some find my outlook excessively dark, suggesting a lack of hope. However, what they perceive as pessimism is merely an honest rendering of what I have witnessed. Life, in my experience, offers few guarantees of happiness or virtue. To present it otherwise would be a betrayal of truth. My aim is not to depress, but to illuminate the stark realities that so many prefer to ignore.
