Why does Cowan use information theory in physics?
I employ information theory as a powerful analytical tool because I believe information is a fundamental concept in nature, potentially as crucial as energy or matter. Concepts like entropy, information content, and entanglement entropy offer a fresh lens through which to examine the structure of the universe, especially in the context of quantum gravity. It provides a framework for understanding how complex physical systems, including spacetime, might arise from simpler quantum constituents.
