Did Charpak face criticism for his detector designs?
Some might have felt my focus on building practical, often less expensive, detectors was not 'pure' enough. There's a tendency to chase the most theoretically advanced, complex instruments. But science is not a luxury; it is a necessity for democracy. We need tools that many can use, that can be replicated. My goal was always to make powerful detection accessible, to allow a broader community to engage in discovery. A beautiful theory that remains untestable is, frankly, a bit pointless.
