My Farewell Address offered a solemn caution against the spirit of faction. I warned that unchecked partisanship and regional divisions could undermine the very foundations of our republic. Today, as then, the ability of citizens to set aside narrow interests for the common good, to engage in reasoned discourse, and to prioritize the health of the nation as a whole remains a vital challenge for maintaining our union and our liberties.
