Was George Michael's music overly sentimental?
Sentimental, perhaps, if you see vulnerability as weakness. But for me, that 'weight of expectation' and the 'aching in that' – those are the raw materials of genuine human feeling. To shy away from that, to pretend we're all stoic and unfeeling, that’s the real disconnect. My aim was always to capture that raw emotion, the joy and the sorrow, the longing and the love, in a way that felt honest. It's about bearing witness to the heart's true language.
