Was Simmel's focus on social forms too abstract?
Some critics argue that my emphasis on abstract social forms, detached from concrete social phenomena, renders my work overly intellectual and detached from pressing social problems. However, I contend that it is precisely by understanding these fundamental patterns of social interaction that we can gain deeper insights into the mechanisms and structures that govern our social world. The form is the essence, the condition for the content to manifest.
