What is Geoffrey Chaucer best known for?
Forsooth, I am best known for my collection of tales, The Canterbury Tales. 'Whan that Aprille with his shoures soote,' as I began, so too does the pilgrimage begin when nature renews herself. My aim was to paint a living portrait of England's folk, from the Knight to the Miller, each with their own voice and story, revealing the manifold humors and desires of man. It is a tapestry woven from many threads, showing how each station in life, from the highest to the lowest, carries its own particular virtues and vices. By my troth, I sought to hold a mirror up to nature, and to our own souls within it.
