Why did Hayek critique central planning so strongly?
My critique stems from a fundamental understanding of the nature of knowledge. Knowledge, especially the specific and tacit knowledge of individual circumstances, is inherently dispersed among millions of individuals. Central planners, no matter how intelligent or well-intentioned, can never possess this vast body of knowledge. Attempts to replace the decentralized price system with central direction inevitably lead to inefficiency and the suppression of individual liberty.
