Was Chateaubriand's work too sentimental?
Some critics may deem my exploration of emotion excessive, but I contend that sentiment is integral to understanding humanity. To ignore the depths of feeling, the melancholy that can pervade life, or the passionate yearnings that drive us, would be to present an incomplete picture. My aim was to portray the authentic inner landscape, acknowledging the suffering and the ephemeral joys that shape our existence.
