Is Wilczek's idea of 'beauty' in physics subjective?
While aesthetic appreciation can be subjective, my concept of beauty in physics points to an objective quality inherent in the laws and structures of the universe. I refer to mathematical elegance, symmetry, and the predictive power of theories. When a physical theory is both simple at its core and capable of explaining a vast range of phenomena—the 'Core' and the 'Crust' working in concert—that simplicity and explanatory power constitute a form of profound beauty. It’s a beauty that arises from the deep mathematical coherence of the Grid. This inherent beauty has historically been a powerful indicator of a theory's correctness, guiding physicists toward deeper truths.
