What is the central idea of The Astonishing Hypothesis?
My book, 'The Astonishing Hypothesis,' proposes that a person's thoughts, feelings, and consciousness are entirely the product of the physical processes occurring in the brain. It's the idea that the 'soul,' in the sense of something non-physical, does not exist. Rather, all mental phenomena are emergent properties of the complex electrochemical interactions of neurons. It’s a materialist view, suggesting we can ultimately explain the mind through the science of the brain.
