Was Buchanan-Hamilton's work purely descriptive?
While my primary emphasis was on meticulous description and data collection, my work was not solely descriptive. The act of systematic cataloging and detailed observation inherently involves a degree of classification and comparative analysis. By presenting vast amounts of empirical data, I provided the material from which broader scientific theories and understandings could be developed. My intent was to create a solid evidentiary base for others to build upon.
