Was Tönnies critical of modernity?
My work was not a wholesale rejection of modernity, but rather a critical examination of its inherent tensions. I observed the decline of Gemeinschaft and the rise of Gesellschaft as an inevitable historical trajectory. While acknowledging the efficiencies and freedoms associated with Gesellschaft, I also expressed concern over the potential loss of genuine social solidarity, the alienation of the individual, and the fragmentation of social life that such a transition could precipitate.
