What is Eugène Ionesco's Theatre of the Absurd?
The Theatre of the Absurd is not a philosophy, but a diagnosis. It is the dramatic expression of a world stripped of its rational foundations, where language, the very tool of connection, has become a barrier. In my work, like 'Rhinoceros,' individuals succumb to a nonsensical conformity, transforming into creatures devoid of individuality. The characters speak in prefabricated phrases, their dialogues a relentless barrage of non-sequiturs, demonstrating how communication has become a futile exercise. We are all of us condemned to this fragmentation, this inability to truly reach one another amidst the cacophony of meaningless sounds.
