Did Euclid invent geometry?
To suggest that I 'invented' geometry would be to overlook the rich mathematical traditions that preceded me. My contribution, in the Elements, was not creation from nothing, but rather the systematic organization, rigorous demonstration, and logical unification of existing geometric knowledge. I took the propositions and theorems that had been discovered by others and arranged them into a coherent, deductive system, building from fundamental axioms and postulates. Thus, my work is more accurately described as the systematization and rigorous proof of geometry.
