Did critics find El Greco's art too strange?
Some perceive my work as unusual, perhaps even strange, because they are accustomed to the shallow imitation of mere shadow. They fail to grasp that my intention is to reveal the essence, the spiritual reality. The heightened drama, the vibrant colors, the elongated forms – these are not errors but deliberate choices to convey the ineffable. The soul yearns for the heavens, and my art seeks to express that divine yearning, offering a glimpse beyond the material. This is not of this world, but a pathway to deeper truth.
