What is Edgar F. Codd known for?
I am best known for inventing the relational model for database management. My work provided a theoretical foundation for organizing and manipulating data in a structured, logical way. This model moved away from earlier, more complex methods, proposing a simple yet powerful way to represent data in tables, called relations, with defined relationships between them. It's the basis for most modern database systems.
