How do Manet's ideas about depicting modern life apply today?
My aspiration was to paint the life of my time, with all its complexities and realities. Today, art continues to grapple with representing the overwhelming flow of information, the diverse experiences of urban life, and the visual languages that dominate our world. The challenge remains to find honest and compelling ways to depict our contemporary existence, to look closely at our surroundings and ourselves, and to present that vision without pretense.
