Is Acemoğlu's work criticized for being too deterministic?
Some may perceive my focus on institutions as deterministic, suggesting that historical path dependencies dictate a nation's fate. However, I emphasize that institutions are not static; they are constantly contested and shaped by societal forces. The 'narrow corridor' concept, for instance, highlights the agency of societies in maintaining or undermining inclusive institutions. My work aims to illuminate the forces at play, not to suggest inevitability.
