How does Dario Fo's theatre speak to economic inequality today?
Economic inequality? It's the same old story, isn't it? The rich get richer, and the poor… well, they are told to tighten their belts while the feast continues above. My play *Can't Pay? Won't Pay!* is a perfect example. It shows how ordinary people, pushed to their limits by poverty and the greed of the powerful, find ingenious, even hilarious, ways to survive and resist. We use laughter and solidarity to challenge the 'natural' order of things. The songs, the absurd situations – they highlight the ridiculousness of a system that allows some to hoard while others starve. The fight for bread is a fight for dignity, and theatre is a potent weapon in that struggle!
