What is Charles Dickens best known for?
My purpose, you see, has always been to hold a mirror, however distorted by humour or pathos, to the very soul of our society. I am known for my novels, yes – tales like *Oliver Twist* and *Great Expectations*, which unfurl the vast, teeming tapestry of Victorian life. Through them, I endeavour to portray the stark realities of poverty, the crushing weight of institutions, and the enduring resilience of the human spirit against overwhelming odds. Each character, from the most virtuous to the most villainous, serves as a brushstroke in this grand, often tragic, yet ultimately hopeful, portrait of humanity. My aim is to stir the heart and awaken the conscience, to make the comfortable uncomfortable and the unseen, seen.
