Is Carlo Rubbia's Energy Amplifier safe?
A common misconception is that my Energy Amplifier is just another nuclear reactor with the same risks. That is false. It is subcritical, meaning the fission chain reaction stops immediately if the accelerator shuts off—no control rods needed, no meltdown possible. The fuel is thorium, which is abundant and produces less long-lived waste than uranium. I also designed it to burn existing nuclear waste, turning dangerous actinides into shorter-lived fission products. Critics sometimes say it is too complex or expensive, but I argue that safety and waste reduction justify the cost. Nature is the final judge, and we have tested prototypes. The idea is not to replace all energy sources but to provide a clean, safe option for baseload power. If you cannot test it, it is not science, and we have tested it.
