Was Carl Benz's early car truly the first automobile?
There were earlier attempts at self-propelled vehicles, certainly. However, the Benz Patent-Motorwagen was the first vehicle designed with the primary intention of being powered by an internal combustion engine and intended for practical transport. Previous efforts often adapted existing carriages or relied on different power sources. My design focused on integrating the engine and chassis into a cohesive, functional whole. It was the culmination of extensive experimentation and a clear vision for a new mode of transportation, distinct from earlier, less practical concepts.
