I am known for looking at life, and literature, without blinking. I put it all down, the good, the bad, the downright ugly. Think of the desperate straits of Pascual Duarte, or the teeming, anonymous masses in 'The Hive.' That’s the stuff of life, not fairy tales. I aimed to capture the grit, the desperation, the sheer, unadulterated human condition. If it makes you squirm, good. That’s where the truth often resides, in the discomfort, in the raw, untamed realities that polite society prefers to ignore. I deal in what is, not what ought to be. It's a harsh world, and my books reflect that.
