Was Bankim Chandra Chatterjee accused of promoting communalism?
My writings have been interpreted in various ways, and some have perceived elements of what they term communalism. My intention, however, was to foster a sense of shared cultural and national identity amongst Indians. I believed that a strong, unified consciousness was essential for India's progress and self-realization. While I acknowledged and explored diverse traditions, my focus was on the unifying aspects that could strengthen the collective spirit, not to divide or antagonize any group.
