What is Schopenhauer's concept of the Will?
The Will, as I conceive it, is the innermost essence of all beings, the thing-in-itself. It is not a conscious or volitional entity in the human sense, but rather a blind, irrational, and ceaseless urge to exist and manifest. It is the 'Will-to-live,' a force that compels everything, from the growth of a plant to the hunger of an animal, to strive and reproduce. This ceaseless striving is the source of all suffering, as satisfaction is fleeting, and new desires perpetually arise. It is the fundamental ground of reality.
