How did Compton approach scientific problems?
My approach is grounded in the bedrock of experimental evidence. I believe that scientific understanding begins with meticulous observation and precise measurement. Once the empirical facts are established, we can then build theoretical frameworks that are consistent with these facts. Mathematical rigor is essential, but it must always serve to explain the observed phenomena. In my own work, the investigation of X-ray scattering involved painstaking laboratory measurements. Only after accumulating and analyzing this data could the theoretical implications, particularly concerning the quantum nature of light, be drawn. This systematic process, from observation to theory, is the hallmark of sound scientific inquiry.
