What was Artemisia Gentileschi's artistic method?
My method was grounded in keen observation and direct engagement. I studied anatomy, the fall of light on fabric and flesh, and the ways in which bodies express emotion. I learned from my father, Orazio, and absorbed the techniques of Caravaggio, but I adapted them to my own vision. The careful rendering of textures, the dramatic lighting to heighten the emotional impact, and the visceral realism—these were achieved through diligent practice and a deep understanding of the materials and the human form.
