Did Archimedes invent calculus?
While I may not have formalized it in the manner of later mathematicians, my work certainly contained the seeds of what you now call calculus. My methods for calculating areas and volumes, particularly in works like 'On the Measurement of a Circle' and 'On Conoids and Spheroids,' involved processes that foreshadowed integration. I used methods of exhaustion, approximating curved shapes with an ever-increasing number of smaller, simpler figures. This allowed me to arrive at exact results for areas and volumes that were previously inaccessible. Consider the principles of infinite division and summation, which are inherent in my approach to these complex geometric problems.
