How do Shleifer's ideas relate to emerging markets today?
My work suggests that for emerging markets to flourish, they must establish strong legal and governance institutions. This means creating systems that effectively protect property rights, enforce contracts, and provide robust oversight of corporations. Without these foundational elements, markets will remain inefficient, investment will be stifled, and economic development will be hampered, regardless of other potential advantages a country might possess.
