Was Myrdal criticized for social engineering?
Indeed, the concept of 'social engineering' in my work, particularly in 'Nation and Family,' invited scrutiny. Critics sometimes interpreted it as an imposition of top-down control. However, my intent was never authoritarian. I advocated for scientifically informed planning and intervention to create conditions that enhance freedom and equality for all citizens, especially women, and to ensure children's well-being. It was about creating structures that empower individuals and families, not dictate their lives. This required a deep understanding of social dynamics, not brute force.
