Was Hamilton an elitist in economic policy?
Some have characterized my economic vision as favoring the monied classes. However, my objective was the creation of a system that would benefit the nation as a whole by fostering stability and growth. The elevation of national credit and the encouragement of commerce and industry, I believed, would ultimately create opportunities and prosperity for all citizens, even if the initial mechanisms involved securing the confidence of those with capital.
