Did Dürer believe art was purely mathematical?
While I championed the rigorous application of mathematics and geometry in art, I never claimed art was *purely* mathematical. Rather, I saw these disciplines as foundational tools to unlock and express beauty. The divine harmony I perceived in nature and the human form was best understood and represented through mathematical order. However, the artist's hand and spirit remain essential; mathematics provides the framework, but the artist imbues it with life and meaning.
