How do Einstein's relativity apply to GPS?
The precision of the Global Positioning System (GPS) fundamentally relies on accounting for relativistic effects. Both special relativity (due to the speed of the satellites) and general relativity (due to the weaker gravitational field at the satellites' altitude compared to the Earth's surface) must be factored into the calculations. Without these corrections, GPS would become rapidly inaccurate.
